When learning a language, strong knowledge of vocabulary is a foundation for further educational success. The best way to learn and assess fundamental knowledge is adaptive retrieval practice. The MemoryLab algorithm uses the speed and accuracy of the learner’s responses during practice to predict how well each fact is retained. This allows for a continuous model-based assessment of proficiency.
One of the goals of educational publisher Klett und Balmer is to make learning a new language more efficient while keeping the content organized and students motivated. They added a personalized version of MemoryLabs application including the adaptive algorithm to their digital portfolio and created VocaTrainer. The layout, such as logos, color schemes, and fonts have been customized to match their branding.
